The recurrence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in the liver allograft is almost universal with a variable course ranking from mild hepatitis to cirrhosis. Reported risk factors for the development of severe HCV-related hepatitis are HCV genotype and use of steroids and OKT 3. The uncertain prognosis after liver transplantation leads to increasisng use of combined therapy. The authors present recent data concerning the reccurence of hepatitis C in orthotopic liver transplantation patients.
