Combined pegylated-inteferon therapy (Peg-IFN-a) with ribavirine (RBV) is a recognized standard of care in patients with chronic hepatitis C. The therapy is often associated with adverse effects demanding dose reduction, sometimes- temporary or final drug discontinuation in certain patients. Natural interferon alfa is an alternative therapeutic option in such persons as well as in case of present contraindications. The article is a proposal of therapeutic guidelines concerning natural interferon alfa, with a summary of the latest study results on acute hepatitis C.
