Abstract provided by Publisher
Liver biopsy is still accepted as the „gold standard” for the evaluation of liver disease. In addition to the percutaneous approach, a liver specimen can be obtained by transjugular, laparoscopic, or intraoperative means. Today, this invasive procedure is performed to assess disease prognosis and to evaluate therapeutic strategy. The review discusses the changing role of liver biopsy in modern hepatology.
