Abstract provided by Publisher
Steatosis occurs frequently in hepatitis C. The mechanisms leading to this lesion are different according to HCV genotypes. In HCV-3 steatosis is connected with viral load, in other with body mass index. Steatosis affects the natural course of HCV infection. It is associated with fibrosis, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, impairment of the response to antiviral
treatment and carcinogenesis. In patients infected with HCV-3 genotype antiviral treatment is efficient and connected with reduction of steatosis.
