Abstract provided by Publisher
In liver insufficiency, pro- and anticoagulant mechanisms of hemostasis are impaired. An overview of coagulation disorders in patients with liver disease and the limitations of currently available diagnostic methods are presented. Patients with liver insufficiency may be asymptomatic as long as the equilibrium between pro- and anticoagulant mechanisms is maintained. However, loss of this unstable equilibrium predisposes to bleeding or thrombotic complications.
