Abstract provided by Publisher
The prevalence of steatosis in patients with HCV infection is about 50%. It is one
of the causes that induce progression of liver injury and resistance for standard treatment.
Fatty liver is a direct effect of viral activity in genotype 3 HCV infection whereas in other genotypes
infection it is an effect of metabolic factors depending on the host such as: obesity,
hyperlipidemia, insulin resistance, diabetes type 2 and alcohol consumption. In these patients
changes in life style and dietary restriction could be helpful for improving liver disease and
increasing SVR frequency.
