Abstract provided by Publisher
Orphan diseases are rare diseases that affect fewer than 1 in 2 000 people. They
can vary in prevalence between populations, rare disease in some populations may be common
in others. The European Organization for Rare Diseases (EURORDIS) estimates that there
are about 8 000 rare diseases and the list is still open. Most of the liver diseases are orphan
diseases. European and Polish medical and research activities to improve medical care of
orphan diseases are described and discussed.
