Abstract provided by Publisher

Familial cholestasis is the group of disorders with varying clinical course and outcome.
Medical treatment is the first step in clinical approach however it is rarely successful
to stop progression of disease and alleviate symptoms of cholestasis. Introduction of surgical
interventions: partial external biliary diversion, ileal bypass and liver transplantation shed
the new light on prognosis and quality of life in affected individuals. In this review we present
the role of surgery and artificial liver support in treatment of children with PFIC, BRIC and
Allagille syndrome.
